Travel back through thousands of years with a visit to Fort Jesus, old fortress built by the Portuguese to protect their trade with India (today National museum). From here, you will meander through the narrow streets of the Old Town, past beautiful carved doors and balconies, mosques and shops, selling antiques and all sorts of craftwork.
Down the Old Port, you might see the Arab dhows that have sailed from Arabia by Monsoon Winds carrying their wares just as they did thousands of years ago. Then drive past the Mombasa State House, Kilindini Harbor, the giant "elephant tusks" (commemorating the Royal visit of Princess Margaret in 1957), before visiting one of the most decorated Hindu temples. proceed to the Mamba Village. In this rehabilitated Crocodile Farm, meet the big daddy, the largest & Oldest crocodile also other crocodiles, horses & Camels & many other reptiles. Depart from the hotel at 07:00.Drive to Malindi (125kms) north of Mombasa, a popular holiday resort consisting of hotels and a local fishing Village with markets and shops in Arab/African style.
On the way you visit Gede Ruins, an ancient ruined city that was mysteriously abandoned in the 13th century and slowly overgrown by jungle vegetation, but then re-discovered in this century in Malindi.
You embark on a glass bottom boat for a tour in the marine park to view the colorful tropical fishes and corals (remember to bring swimming suits and beach shoes).Lunch at a Scorpio villas Malindi. After lunch we visit the Ngomongo Cultural Center (also called The Ngomongo villages), this centre is a look back in time in miniature of tribal life and community groundings. Here you are able to get a glimpse of the lifestyle and Giriama palm winer tapper at Ngomongo cultural villagecultures that existed for centuries before “civilization" came to Africa. Different traditional tribal huts are set up in this themed village, with peoples from the different tribes portraying their ancestors. After lunch, visit the Haller park where you may feed the giraffes (always a delight for the young ones). Watch the crocodiles and hippos feeding. Haller Park is the largest animal sanctuary in Mombasa boasting an enormous variety of animals, reptiles, insects and botanical gardens. Walking along the trail is the ideal way to look at the various animals, and on many occasions holding or feeding a reptile such as a snake is allowed under close supervision of a guide. Visit Owen and Mzee, a most surprising pairing. In December 2004, a frightened young hippo, separated from his family by a devastating tsunami, bonded with an Aldabra tortoise named Mzee.
Our minibuses pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Bombolulu Cultural Centre which was founded in 1969 and is a project of the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK). The center trains and employs over 150 persons with disabilities in handicraft production and related business skills. The Cultural Centre portrays the Kenyan way of life as it existed in the past and as it still exists in many remote areas of Kenya.
All hand crafted products manufactured by gifted artisans are displayed in a showroom where visitors are able to purchase high quality products. Fair prices enable the Centre to continue to develop the full potential of the workforce. The exciting songs and dance are “an experience to remember” and a visit to the homesteads which exposes Kenyan culture, Traditional dance, music and theatre at its very best is a “must see!”
Screen printed kikois (traditional Swahili wear), shopping bags and many other fashion accessories and unique carvings handcrafted by disabled artisans are available from this unique center that is a favorite of the traveler.
