Medieval Lamu is Kenya’s oldest inhabited stone town. Part of the Lamu Archipelago, Lamu has white, sandy beaches, historical sites and superb seafood. The narrow streets are full of unhurried locals and donkey carts with a smattering of curious travelers.
Fly to Manda Island upon arrival at airstrip tit will take a few minutes by boat for your transfer to Kipungani Explorer for accommodation. Afternoon is spent at leisure, you will have options of visit the dhow making village, tour to the Lamu Museum or simply do a walking tour of the town or to experience it all in the local's style, ride around Lamu town on a donkey's back. Overnight at the Kipungani Explorer.
Wake to breakfast and a day of exploration of Lamu Island or alternatively simply relax on the beach. Lunch - freshly caught fish and seafood dishes dominate the superb cuisine. optional; you may go to Manda Island beach for snorkeling, swimming, and sunbathing. Excursions to the surrounding areas including Pate Island can be arranged. Dinner and overnight at Kipungani Explorer.
Enjoy the morning in Lamu. After lunch transfer to Manda Airstrip for return flight to Mombasa. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel.

Overlooking a deserted 14 km beach on the south-western tip of Lamu Island, Kipungani Explorer is a dream destination for those seeking a true desert island holiday and it is also our recommended accommodation for your Lamu Excursion/Safari. After a 90 minute flight from Nairobi, you will be met at Manda Island and transported by boat to the lodge, which is located two degrees south of the Equator.
Our 14 spacious and secluded chalets sit above the soft white sands of Kipungani Bay, which is Swahili for 'the place of fresh air'. Shaded by the palm trees that line our 600 m beachfront, the chalets are constructed entirely from local materials, with mkeka matting floors and makuti thatch roofs woven by the residents of neighbouring Kipungani Village. The large interiors are a picture of rustic simplicity, with giant king-size beds and all furniture handmade from local mangrove and palm woods. Each chalet has an ocean-facing verandah with local funzi sofas and chairs piled high with colourful cushions. Amenities include freshwater showers, flush toilets, and separate dressing areas with wash basins. |
